Jungle Disk Online Storage And Backup

Jungle Disk Online Storage And BackupAs part of our Cloud Computing offerings DCB.NET.AU use Jungle Disk Online Storage and Backup services (also known as My Secure Backup).

This service allows you to select either Amazon S3 or Rack Space for storage. Jungle Disk are wholly owned by Rack Space.

Ease of use, reliability, cost and functionality were key factors in our selection of Jungle Disk. Jungle Disk provides three basic functions important to small businesses:

  • A shared J: network drive that appears the same as other network drives but is available over the Internet (commonly via an ADSL or wireless 3G link). Files copied using file explorer are copied to the Cloud J: drive in the background. Files may also opened directly from the J: drive.
  • A synchronised folder mechanism so that local folders on your C: drive can be synchronised (in the background) to the Cloud. Once synchronised other PC's and Laptops that share the synchronised folders are brought up to date. So you can have your important files on your desktop and on your laptop. You can also share synchronised files with other people in your organisation.
  • A backup mechanism that copies only changed files from you local PC to the Cloud

Our Clients In The Cloud

  • Superior Wealth Management Services are using Jungle Disk with Rack Space. They have laptops for their business and share several synchronised folders between staff. Their laptops are backed up to their Jungle Disk J: drive.
  • Keystone Accountants are using Jungle Disk to provide a simple means of scanning documents in one remote office, synchronising them at head office and transferring them to their main server. As these documents represent their clients confidential information and they are shredded after scanning a robust mechanism with built in backup was required.

Taking Care Of Your Data

It is prudent to take care of your data. Cloud based services such as Jungle Disk are robust, have redundant systems and do daily backups of their servers. Just like loosing a Laptop, however, you may loose your Cloud based services provider. If you do not have a local copy of your data you may be in trouble.

All DCB.NET.AU implementations using Cloud based services (and traditional server based technologies) take this into account. We design a solution that ensures maximum protection of your data and provide mechanisms to help you in the event of a disaster.

Data Security

Not just anyone can access your data. We ensure your data is encrypted both on its way over the Internet and while its stored in the Cloud. Each client is issued with a unique password key that is used to encrypt their data. Only they have access to this key.

Convenient Billing

For our clients we offer a convenient annual billing for Jungle Disk that incorporates DCB.NET.AU regular monitoring of their Cloud service. We have packaged our service to best suit the needs of our small business clients.

Taking Into Account The Speed Of You Internet Connection

With Cloud services your business becomes dependant on a good connection to the Internet. When you are transferring large amounts of data to and from the Internet a good connection becomes critical to your business.

ADSL connections, in particular, are often missunderstood. They are designed for lots of downloads from the Internet and little going the other way. Depending on how far from your telephone exchange you are will determine the speed of your data transfers. Depending on your plan you may be charged excess usage or worse (for your business) your connection may be slowed.

DCB.NET.AU have the following recommendations:

  • Buy a good quality ADSL modem
  • Make sure you have a business grade plan with the highest speed for your area
  • Make sure you have plenty of data allowance
  • Use copper network cables between the modem and your PC's if practical
  • Check for good connections for the telephone and power and protect your equipment against power surges and "brown outs"
  • Buy an Unterruptible Power Supply (UPS) as these devices can prevent many IT problems
  • Buy a backup mechanism for connecting to the Internet such as a 3G wireless USB modem
